Prayer When Struggling With Unforgiveness

Are you dealing with hurt and disappointment? Struggling with unforgiveness, trying to forgive but you always find yourself bitter or angry? Are you struggling to let go of the pain?

Maybe you were abused as a child or raped, or you went through pain at the hands of a loved one. Maybe you were played and cheated on? Or you are experiencing pain from a breakup?

Stacy relayed this story of what she experienced to me.

“I found myself in a similar position of unforgiveness. In my late teens, as a young Christian woman, I was approached by a pastor, in a manner I didn’t appreciate. I found myself hating any other pastors who seem to exhibit the same behavior towards other young women.

My hatred went beyond the actual behavior, and towards the person themselves. Yes, we must rebuke the actions and behavior, but we must learn to forgive and release as well. The initial behavior of one pastor created a chain of hatred within me!”

The Lord wants you to be at peace.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

We need to forgive others, not only because holding onto grudges hurts us and not the other person. But also because our Heavenly Father commands us to forgive.

Mark 11:25 – “And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

For some, you will find that you know all these Scriptures, but your pain is still there, or you still can’t forgive. You need to understand that it is not by power nor by might, but by the Spirit of the Lord.

LET US PRAY – Prayer When You Are Struggling With Unforgiveness, Bitterness And Pain Of The Past

How precious is your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings. Let your glory be over all the earth. You are the great and awesome One! Just and righteous are You!

Father, I thank you for the gift of life. I thank you for lavishing your love upon me. Thank you, Lord, for never leaving nor forsaking me. You have been my help in time of need.

Lord, for all your love and care, I’m grateful. You blot out my transgressions and sins for your own sake, what a loving God You are!

Lord, Heal Me

Lord, there is deep hurt in my heart. I feel betrayed. I feel angry, bitter, and I can’t seem to let go of the pain from my past. I am forever struggling with bitter unforgiveness.

The wounds from the abuse, breakup and betrayal are still open. I tried sweeping them under the carpet, but they always spring out, leaving me without peace.

Heal me, Lord! Take away this pain from my heart, so I will be able to forgive. Remove this hurt, close up this wound and fill me with your peace which surpasses all understanding.

Lord, I Give My Pain into Your Hands

Ephesians 4:31-32 – Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Lord, it’s my desire to obey Your Word. Your word tells me to get rid of bitterness and anger, and to forgive others as you forgave me in Christ. Lord, I lay all my pain into your hands.

I give you my heavy burden of unforgiveness and pain of the past, in exchange for your yoke, which is easy, and your burden, which is light.

Your word says – Come all who are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Lord, I come to you that you may give me rest from all the hurt, pain, and unforgiveness.

Holy Spirit Have Your way

I invite the Holy Spirit to be my comforter today. Holy Spirit, have Your way in my heart. Comfort me and give me your peace.

Cleanse my heart and purify me. I allow You to take control of all things in my life, as you give me Your peace.

Philippians 4:8-9 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Lord, I ask, whenever I start thinking about hurtful things, please remind me that your word said I should think of pure, right, lovely, admirable, and praiseworthy things.

I take this journey with you Holy Spirit, and I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
