One of the wonderful graces to possess is that of selflessness. But, unfortunately, selfishness abounds. In today’s world, we have become preoccupied with self and satisfying the desires of self, without concern of the impact of others.

Philippians 2:3. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.

The word of God asks us to value others above ourselves! Yet few of us can testify to doing so each and every day.

Psalm 119:36. Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.

This should be our desire, to focus on God’s statutes and what He desires of us, rather than our own selfish goals and ambitions.

Let Us Pray

Dear loving and selfless Savior, thank You for becoming a High Priest and giving a sacrifice of yourself to redeem us. Thank You for forgetting Your glory for a while, just to come down to live on the earth You created, that You may show us the way.

Thank You for dying our death that You might give us life. You bore our sins and God’s anger towards us was poured on You on the cross, all because You loved us with selfless love.

Psalm 119:36 Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Remove All Forms Of Selfishness

Lord, let this mind also be in me, that I may not only think of myself and do what is beneficial to me alone, but that I may look out for the interests of others as well.

As Christ has loved me and selflessly given His life for me, may I also pass this selfless love onto others as a way to say thank you to You Lord. Remove all forms of selfishness. Fill me with Your love and grace.

Philippians 2:4. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.

Mark 12:31. The second most important commandment is this: ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’ There is no other commandment more important than these two.”

Focus On Christ

Lord, I live in a world that teaches me to put myself first and above others. It teaches me to focus on myself and personal growth. Yet, if You had focused on Yourself and put Yourself first, we would not be here today.

So Lord, help me to love others exactly as I love myself. Not to put myself above them, but to treat them the way I would want to be treated. In the loving and mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.

1 Corinthians 10:24. No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.

James 3:16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
