Powerful Prayer Against Panic Attacks

How do you handle panic situations? How do you react when you have a panic attack? The Psalmist David felt threatened by his enemies. Panic rose up within him. But in those moments he overcame by his faith trust and hope in his almighty and powerful God.

Psalm 31: 13-16 For I hear many whispering,“Terror on every side!” They conspire against me, and plot to take my life. But I trust in you Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me. Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.

God loves and wants all of us: the good, the bad, the imperfect, and the flawed part of us. You don’t have to come to him only when things are rosy and sweet. You can and should come when they are also bad.

God does not want us to be anxious for anything. He wants to communicate his peace to us. He wants to calm our fear-filled minds and fill our hearts with his peace – the one the world cannot give nor understand.

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Battling The Fear And Dread

When faced with panic situations, the devil can come in through this avenue by magnifying the uncertainty of the decision that we have or are about to take. He weaves his lies and confuses us just so he could stop God’s plan in our lives. He is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44) so we cannot give in to his deception.

One of the worst things about panic attacks is that it fills you with anxiety and fear because of the uncertainty of when the next episode might be. You are constantly in your head asking: ”Will it happen at work, while I am shopping for groceries or while I am nursing my child?”

Living under this constant dread and fear of when the attack might happen is enough pain to make life unbearable, and so you begin to avoid situations that may cause the attacks.

Now you may say, “How can God hear me when I can’t even talk because of this attack?” The good news is that God hears us when we are under the heavy grip of fear, anxiety, worry, or stress.

He hears even when we can’t say the words. He hears us even when we are saying the words but our mind is flustered with the effect of our episode. Panic attacks cannot stop God from hearing and answering our prayers.

Calm Amidst the Storm

Lord Jesus, in those moments when my heart races uncontrollably, when I feel trapped in a cage of fear, and my thoughts spiral without end, I turn to You. Panic attacks strike without warning, causing my world to narrow down to the choking constriction of anxiety.

But I cling to the truth that You are bigger than my fears, greater than any panic, and more powerful than the darkest storm clouds that hover over my mind.

You, who calmed the raging seas with a mere word, I pray that You speak peace into my anxious heart. When the waves of panic threaten to drown me, remind me that I can stand firm upon the solid rock of Your promises.

I pray for a spirit of calm and tranquility, a serene heart that trusts in You even when my world seems to crumble around me.

Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.

Mark 4:39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

The Shelter of His Presence

My ever-present Helper, I am in awe of Your unwavering faithfulness. In my weakest, most vulnerable moments, when I’m ensnared in the grips of a panic attack, You are there.

Even when I feel isolated, trapped within the confines of my own turbulent emotions, I am never truly alone. Your presence is a sanctuary, a refuge from the stormy onslaught of my own thoughts.

I take solace in the knowledge that You understand my every fear and that nothing can separate me from Your love. Wrap me, Lord, in the protective embrace of Your mighty wings.

When I am blinded by panic, guide me to still waters. When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Help me to lean into Your presence, finding assurance in the truth that You are with me in every situation, even in the throes of anxiety.

Psalm 61:2 From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety.

Joshua 1:9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.

Victory Over Fear

Majestic Creator, You did not create me to be a captive to fear. The enemy seeks to bind me in chains of anxiety, but I declare in faith that I am free, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed.

I reject the lies that tell me I am powerless, that I am weak, and that I am alone. With every heartbeat, I choose to stand firm in Your truth, knowing that I am more than a conqueror through Christ who strengthens me.

Each time I feel the beginnings of a panic attack, let it be an opportunity for me to deepen my dependence on You. Arm me with Your Word, which is the sword of the Spirit, that I might cut down every lie and dispel every fear.

I declare that, in Your strength, I have the victory over panic and anxiety, and I claim this truth for my life.

Romans 8:37-38 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

I Shall Be Calm

Heavenly Father, my enemies are spreading all types of stories about me. Let their lying lips be silenced, for, with pride and contempt, they speak arrogantly against the righteous. Uplift your servant, and bless my name.

I know that I’m not alone. I will not panic. I shall be calm. Thank you for your Holy Spirit within me and your angels around me. Lord, take away this yoke from me. Let your peace come and fill my troubled heart and calm my nerves. This I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen!

Luke 12:25-26 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?
