Prayer: Let My Light Shine

Jesus Christ is the light of the world. And as well, every Christian is the light of the world! Most of the time, we only call on God to illuminate our lives, we speak the light of God in our lives, but we do little about the fact that we are the light of this world too. We hide our light.

Matthew 5:14-16. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.

Being a light is different from having light. Being a light does not benefit the light itself, but it benefits the environment where the light is situated. Jesus said we are the light of the world…so the world should benefit from our radiance.

Isaiah 60:3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.

If you are a very zealous person, you probably pray that God would use you to change the world. It starts with your family, your neighbors, your colleagues and your community.

When your light shines, the people around you will see your glow, and therefore they won’t dwell in darkness anymore. Light represents the knowledge of God and His righteousness. Darkness represents ignorance, lack of knowledge about God and sinful living.

That is why Jesus said, let your light so shine before men, that they may see your GOOD WORKS, your moral excellence and praise worthy character. That is how to illuminate a dark world.

Matthew 3:8. Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart];

Numbers 6:24-26 The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Let Us Pray – Let My Light Shine

My beloved Lord, I thank You for illuminating my path with Your guiding light. I am thankful for Your divine radiance that shone upon me during my times of ignorance, darkness, and sin.

As I stand before You today, I humbly request that You continue to shine Your light upon me, so that I may be a beacon of hope and inspiration to those around me.

May I radiate brightly, so that my loved ones, community, coworkers, and the world at large may witness the embodiment of Jesus Christ within me. Through my actions and deeds, in the name of Jesus Christ, may people see the goodness that flows from my heart.

Just as a city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden, so You have also set me as a light in the world and it cannot be hidden.

Father, help me to bear fruits worthy of repentance that others will see my good works, in the name of Jesus Christ.

Let me not only be born again for myself, but may others who are still in darkness benefit from Your glory in me. In the name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.

2 Corinthians 5:20 – Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.

Matthew 28:19 – Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations. And baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
