Jesus Christ is the light of the world. And as well, every Christian is the light of the world! Most of the time, we only call on the light of God to illuminate our lives, we speak the light of God in our lives, but we do little about the fact that we are the light of this world too. We hide our light.
Matthew 5:14-16. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
Being a light is different from having light. Being a light does not benefit the light itself, but it benefits the environment where the light is situated. Jesus said we are the light of the world…so the world should benefit from our light.
Isaiah 60:3. The Gentiles shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.
If you are a very zealous person, you probably pray that God would use you to change the world. It starts with your family, your neighbors, your colleagues and your community.
When your light shines, the people around you will see your light, and therefore they won’t dwell in darkness anymore.
Light represents the knowledge of God and His righteousness. Darkness represents ignorance, lack of knowledge about God and sinful living.
That is why Jesus said, let your light so shine before men, that they may see your GOOD WORKS, your moral excellence and praise worthy character. That is how to illuminate a dark world.
Matthew 3:8. Bring forth fruit that is consistent with repentance [let your lives prove your change of heart];
Let Us Pray – Let My Light Shine
Dearest Lord, I thank You for being a light for me. I thank You for sending light in my life when I was in ignorance, in darkness and in sin. Today I ask that my light will shine that I may be a blessing to others.
Let my light shine, that my family, neighbors, colleagues and the world may see Jesus Christ in me. Let my light shine, that people will see my good works, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Just as a city that is built on a hill cannot be hidden, so You have also set me as a light in the world and my light cannot be hidden.
Father, help me to bear fruits worthy of repentance that others will see my good works, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Let me not only be born again for myself, but may others who are still in darkness benefit from my light. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
