When Life Overwhelms Us

There are situations in life that leave us breathless and overwhelmed. Each of us has experienced such moments – times when it feels as though the world has turned its back on us, when even God Himself seems distant, it all seems too hard, and we find ourselves walking through our darkest valleys alone.

Job, in his suffering, cried out to God, saying he received no answer (Job 30:20). He had reached the lowest point in his life, having lost his children, wife, livestock, and health. Even his friends had abandoned him in his time of need.

The truth is, we may never fully understand why certain trials come our way. In Job’s case, he had done nothing wrong. God allowed Satan to test Job’s life because He knew Job’s devotion was pure. He served God not for blessings, but out of genuine love and complete trust.

God’s Perfect Timing And Purpose

We can take comfort in knowing that God sees the complete picture long before events unfold in our lives. When Job reached his lowest point, God Himself appeared.

Their conversation, spanning four chapters (38-41), revealed something profound. Through God’s questions, Job discovered the answers he had been seeking, ultimately confessing, “I know that You can do everything…” (Job 42:2).

Through Job’s confession and his act of forgiveness in praying for his friends, scripture tells us that “the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning” (Job 42:12).

The Authority of Christ

As Ephesians 1:20-23 reminds us:

“All this energy issues from Christ: God raised Him from death and set Him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from His rule.

And not just for the time being, but forever. He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church.

The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ’s body, in which He speaks and acts, by which He fills everything with His presence.”

Unlike other deities, our God holds supreme authority over the universe, and Jesus Christ has been given dominion over all things. As our divine mediator, Jesus watches over us with perfect care and understanding. So we must ask ourselves: Is there truly anything too hard for God to do?

Standing Firm in Faith

If your faith wavers because your circumstances seem insurmountable, remember this truth: no power exists beyond God’s authority!

Choose to believe in the God we serve—the same God who parted the Red Sea, enabling His children to walk across on dry land to escape their enemies.

If you face your own Red Sea today, with seemingly insurmountable obstacles before you and hostile forces behind, turn to the God who rules over everything, every power, and every name. If it can be named, God rules over it!

As Proverbs 3:5-6 teaches us: “Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.”

May the God who is able to do all things continue to stand by your side! Amen.
