devil's temptation

… Continued from Part 1

There is something called freewill, this is the ability of agents to make choices free from certain kinds of constraints. So, therefore, people have the option of choice, to chose between good and evil. A good example of choosing between good and evil is Mattew 4-1:10 and it states:

” 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3 Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, “If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread.” 4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. 5 Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written: He shall give his angle charge over you, and in there hands they shall you up, lest you dash your feet against a stone. 7 Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the LORD your God. 8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” 10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ 11 Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.”

In the above scripture, even our Lord Jesus was tempted by the tempter, so who are we to be tempted? If we were to learn by the example of our Lord Jesus Christ on how he dealt with the devil’s temptation, our world would be a better place right now. However, many choose not to. Jesus used the spoken words of the Living God and replied to every temptation that the devil tried to influence. So, therefore, we must know the word of God by reading the Bible because it says in James 4:7

Therefore submit to God, Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”  Remember my friends the word of God is sharper than any two edged sword, this is our weapon against the enemy’s power”.

Now we know how to overcome temptation, here are some ways the devil may try to influence you in doing that one thing or more that you won’t intending to do but yet you still did.

Firstly, Satan purpose on earth is to kill, steal and destroy God’s creation but those who are in a relationship with the Father and gaining experience knows what the enemy plans and tricks are but those who are of the world and have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour are prone to these temptations. Don’t get me wrong, christians and non- christians are tempted but its how we deal with the temptations that matters. There will be times when you have made up your mind to make changes in your life and get rid of old habits or addictions and within a couple weeks or less we realise we are making progress but suddenly its like a struggle, the enemy whispers about how you enjoyed doing what you did in your pass. The enemy uses your pass to get at you whether it be drugs, alcohol, food, marital unfaithfulness…  the list go on and on; we must know how to resist the enemy.

Secondly, the serpent uses people or situations to draw you into his trap but this is where you must have your head on, no matter how good it looks or even feels. We must remember that Satan is a liar and a deceiver and he may come in all shapes and forms, so we must discern or realise what is of God and what is of Satan.  The Bible states in 2 Samuel 22:3:

“The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation,  My stronghold and my refuge; My Savior, You save me from violence”. Also, in 2 Samuel 22:31 ” As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

God’s Word, and having trust in Him, will take you through all obstacles in life and help you to deal with the devil’s temptation, no matter what it might be because He is our shield and protection.

If you haven’t asked Jesus to be your helper in times of trouble, now is the time, just ask Him to come into your heart and forgive you of all your sins and let Him be the light in your life today.
