Thou shall not have any other Gods before me: Exodus 20:5: You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God.

We serve a jealous God. He doesn’t want us to put anything before Him but rather put Him first in everything that we do.

What Are Idols?

What is an idol? Well to me, I thought an idol was an image made of stone, wood and other earthly materials that one would pray to. Yes, this is an idol. But there are other idols even among followers of Jesus.

“Well, I don’t pray to idols, images carved and handmade, so therefore I follow this commandment which means that I am all clear.” Wrong!!!

I may not be guilty of praying to another god but there are other idols that we place before God: money, car, house, land, family, friends and everything that we love more than God.

I learnt that all those are in fact idols. And, sadly, I have been at fault for worshiping idols. Yes! My family and education came first in everything. I would forget God when I got caught up in these things, even to the point where I felt that I had everything, so I didn’t need God.

What can really go wrong?

Like seriously, what could ever go wrong once I am the best in my academics and I am surrounded by the people I love?

Well, let me say, a lot can go wrong if you forget the source of all your happiness: God. Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away. Blessed be the name of the LORD.

In the blink of an eye we can lose everything we put before God.

The earth will pass away but the word of God stands. Don’t make anything an idol, my dear friends. Put God first and everything shall be added on to you. For what shall it benefit a man to gain the world and lose his soul?

What are your idols? What do you love more than god? It is time to surrender all to Jesus. Search within your heart and empty all idols until all you can see is Jesus at the center of it all.

  1. Hi Sacha, when we pay attention to the world and what it has to offer us, we forget God. Material things are not to be worshipped since it is temporary but that thing called LOVE is everlasting. As long as we are facing our direction towards papa God, nothing in this world matters to us.

The only image and likeness that is important to us is the one who made us look just as himself. When we look at idols they have no resemblance to us, it belongs to the enemy that is why we are attractive to it. More importantly, our image and likeness is the DNA of Jesus that’s why when we are attracted to the blood of Jesus that is in our DNA it speak life into everything in us.
I am a citizen from heaven so I know the beauty of the world and my father’s kingdom for which the desires that papa lavish on me is greater than the world offers. The WORLD is an enemy to us but the WORD is a friend to us and his name is Jesus.
    WORLD-enemy-Satan
    WORD-friend-Jesus
    Both names have 5 letters
At the end of those names brought different meanings E.g.
-Tan in Satan burns us with many affliction and oppression. HE laughs at us
-Us in Jesus turns away troubles and together we are one. HE smiles with us

  2. Hallelujah!!!!!!! I am guilty of those sins. But I learnt that God is the ultimate goal and love that I ought to pursue first. Thanks for the reminder. Keep sharing the Gospel Sacha. May God continue to bless you!

    • It is okay. Conviction is good because it helps us to acknowledge where we have gone wrong and helps us to rectify our short comings. But don’t allow guilt to control you at the same time. Because sometimes we feel so guilty that we feel that God would never forgive us but he does forgive but we can’t continue to sin. Stay blessed, dear.

      • Idols are not only images but we can make ourselves Idols to worship. When you think more of yourself than God, when you spend more of your finances on your self than on the things of God you worship yourself
