My life’s journey has taught me a few things. It’s sad to say, but some of those things came out of mistakes I made. I’ve found out that people’s well wishes and stories can only take you so far. Even if they love you very much and mean well for you.
It’s only when you have your own experiences and you have that ‘ah hah’ moment (you know that epiphany you have long after the fact that makes you say ‘ohhhhh that’s what that was about’) then you know experimentally that something is tested and true.
I realize now that most of my mistakes was as a result of my not trusting in God completely to take care of all that concerned me. Sounds familiar? I am certain that everyone has this moment in life. And, don’t be so spiritual that you can’t admit that!
I must confess that I saw almost everyone around me being blessed. I literally felt that God had completely forgotten me. Quietly, I grew mad with God for blessing everyone except me. When something good came my way, my attitude was one of ‘well, it’s about time something good happen to me’. Not very nice or Christ-like, I must admit.
You see that’s what happens when you take your eyes off the God of our love and start to make demands on Him and have the opinion that He should dance to our tunes and do whatever we ask because we are such ‘nice’ Christian folks and God should be grateful to us.
Making Bad Decisions (without God) Costs!
It was in this attitude that I made bad decisions about my job, my friendships, my relationships, my spending and the like.
And I want you to know, that it costed me a lot of unnecessary heart aches that God now had to turn around and help me out of. He picked up the pieces of my broken heart and spirit and mend it.
He taught me the necessary lessons because of my unbelief and bad attitude and then help me along the way.
Now I know that as I grew in my relationship with God, that trust developed and continues to develop.
You see, it’s a normal human response. You can’t trust someone if you don’t know them. The best quality about God is that He is completely trustworthy and utterly dependable.
Love, trust and seek after God’s Heart and Purpose
There are numerous verses of Scripture in the Bible that confirm how much we must love, trust and seek after God’s heart and purpose, just to name a few: Romans 8:28, Proverbs 3: 5&6, Deuteronomy 28: 1-14 and Luke 10:27.
Matthew 6: 30-33 says, “Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.“
The truth is, it’s only when you seek after God’s business, He will in turn take care of all that concerns you.
The key here is to get concerned about God’s heart. He’s quite capable of taking care of yours, seek after Him and let Him worry about everything else, Amen.
