Devotional – No Greater Love
The story of the king
I once heard a story of a King. He was so upset with one of his subjects that he ordered she be executed. While he was making his pronouncement, the husband of the subject ran into the palace. He begged the King to take his life instead.
Stunned by his deep love for his wife, the King relented and forgave the subject of her wrong-doing and set her free. While leaving the palace, the husband asked his wife if she didn't notice how the King looked upon him with such admiration for what he had done.
The wife looked up into her husband’s eyes and said “I couldn't notice him. I was too busy looking at the man who loves me so much, he was willing to give up his life for mine”.
This is such a beautiful story! But, there is a ‘story’ that is not just greater, but also true. In John 15:13 the Bible describes God’s love like this: Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

I am certain, no, I am convinced, that there is no one in this world that can love you as much as our Heavenly Father. For it was love that the Creator would ask His Only Begotten to save a dying world from sin. And, it was love that a Son would look upon this wretched world and say yes.
It was love that was born in a humble stable. And it was love that was nailed upon a tree. It was love that said ‘Father forgive them, for they know not what they do’.
Love went into hell and took the keys of death and the grave. And it was love that ascended into heaven and sent the Comforter until He should come again.
There is no greater love.
This is why Paul could have said in:
If today you feel unloved or unappreciated or your world’s falling apart, do like the wife in this story. Gaze upon the One that loves you more than life, so much so that everything else around you fades in comparison to His love.
May the grace of Our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all, Amen.
