Some Denounce Myles Munroe As “False Teacher”
Critics of Pastor Myles Munroe have denounced him as a “false teacher”. Footage from a sermon in which Munroe declares “Jesus is not the Gospel…The good news is the Kingdom, not Jesus”, first published online in April, has been shared widely on the internet in the wake of the preacher’s death.
Pastor Myles Munroe had appeared with a number of popular speakers throughout his 30-year tenure, including Benny Hinn, T.D. Jakes and Eddie Long. He was also a part of the Promise Keepers gatherings, which sought to help men to be better husbands and fathers.
Myles Munroe, an Oral Roberts University graduate, also authored numerous self-help books including “Releasing Your Potential,” “Overcoming the Crisis,” “The Spirit of Leadership” and “Waiting and Dating.”
But some Christians have expressed concern about some teachings that Munroe promulgated. These include his assertion that the message of the Gospel is not about Christ’s death and resurrection.
These concerns were renewed following word that Munroe had lost his life this past weekend, as some considered the legacy that he left behind.
Myles Munroe a “False Teacher”?
“Jesus preached the gospel of the Kingdom. He did not preach himself,” Munroe says in the 45-minute sermon. “The good news is not Calvary. The good news is not about even the resurrection…The Gospel of the Kingdom is the only true Gospel.”
“Do you know why the people on your job really hate Christians right now? Because you are preaching to them Jesus Christ. You don’t [need to] be talking about blood and nails and the spear in His side, because that’s not what you’re supposed to be talking about. You’ve got to be talking about how to solve people’s problems,” Munroe added.
“People aren’t worried about no blood on no cross. They’re worried about how they’re going to make it through the day.”
Pastor Munroe and his wife, Ruth, were killed in a tragic plane crash on Sunday evening. The jet they were travelling in reportedly hit a shipyard construction crane as it flew into Grand Bahama International Airport, killing all nine people on board.

The problem that I see is this western society doesn’t preach or value kingdom principles. Pastors want to build churches but not the kingdom of God. Dr Miles is attempting to put the focus where it belongs, on the King and His Kingdom…
Miles held the knowledge to break the bonds of religion!! THIS IS THE KINGDOM!! The Bible holds no weight as your religion, this is your CONSTITUTION by your KING!! Knowing the kingdom comes with knowing who you are, who the king is, who Jesus is, knowing your purpose, and knowing the true original idea for man!!! This is the GOSPEL!!. THE KINDOOOOOOOM concept ties it allllll together it’s like the glue.

Dr Myles Monroe teacher was the Holy Spirit not human vessells as Paul declares also of himself. In order for us to fully understand Dr. Myles the Holy Spirit has to become our teacher an interpreter outside of that relm he is going to be misinterpreted.
As i carefully listen, this is what i decipher from myles munroe’s message:
1) In the old testament, man has fallen, contaminated his blood and left/lost the Kingship of God.
2) In the new testament, God is manifested in the flesh, died on the cross, cleansed us with His holy blood for Him to dwell in us again through the Holy Spirit.
3) Now, God has re-deem the human; He is the King again and the human be in His domain again; He lives in us through the Holy Spirit like how He lives originally with Adam & Eve.
4) In the sinful status of the human, the human needs to receive & believe Jesus Christ – be cleansed by His blood, so that the Holy Spirit dwell in that human and God become his King again. The Holy Spirit will help the human love to God with all the human’s heart, mind, soul & strength and help the human love others as He help the human loves himself. Now, let every human decide to enjoy the King-domain because Jesus Christ did the Father’s will and because He sent to us the Helper & Comforter, thus, we can call now God “Abba-Father” – our King who loves to be in His domain.

He along with wife, daughter and son, I believe, all killed Nov 9, 2014, private plane crash and struck a crane @ a junk yard or ship yard , (as some reported), near Grand Bahama International airport going for conference.

Instead of judging other preachers and concluding where they might be after death, we should be focusing on our own salvation. Myles believe in salvation through christ. See all his other sermens. He is an expert in the kingdom message and Ill say he died after fulfilling his mission. He may still safe in Gods hand and nothing we say will change that. He is a born again christian and he deserves to be with Gods people. He did everything right unlike King David and king Solomon and even some of the prophets like Abraham and Noah who were involved in sexual sins. He was just like Christ. Everybody wanted to find fault in him and also called him a false teacher. The only doubt I see in him is that he was commerciallising his preaching and materials which is different to what Christ did.. The bible is silent on whether preaching and materials should be sold for money.
Whether his life was cut because of charging for payment for his books and materials.. who knows only God knows. I guess the question is should all preachers be paid everytime they are invited to preach. And should all teaching materials be paid especially if it has a message of salvation . I would rather recommend books on self help or principles of life to be sold which Myles Munroe had done with his 100 plus books. All I am saying that his death probaby marks the end of mission but his legacy will continue. His books and teachings will still continue to inspire us. We have to look to Christ for new revelation and more clarification on his word. For myself I will miss his sermons especially new revelations that could have revealed if he was still alive.

Well said, also in order for people to appreciate it a price has to be place on it.The Gospel is not free Jesus gave his life for it an we have to do the same.
If one is willing to spend my money to eat in an expensive restaurant, even give large amount of tips to the waiter, spend more than 30% of his/her income on groceries so there’s always have food on the table. Not just that, ordering food online to be delivered, drive through fast foods, etc. etc. So much money spent to feed our carnal bodies. But when it comes to feeding our spiritual body, Christians want everything free! If we truely value knowledge. understanding and wisdom through God’s words, i.e., Bible, books and magazines by Christian authors, tapes, CD’s. Then we should be willing to pay for them as our spiritual food! In other words: the things that we value in life, whether it’s for our body or for our spiritual and intellectual growth, we are willing to pay for it! If you only want free books, chances are you may not even read it or finish reading it because it has no value to you.
I know that I am almost 3 years late on this topic. However, I came across this article today and felt it was important to respond to some of the above statements in effort to provide clarity for future readers of this article, much like myself. I believe this article was written in error and defames a great man of God and his legacy. I watched the attached video in it’s totality, and I did not perceive that Dr. Myles Munroe was belittling or diminishing Jesus Christ at all. I think his message was taken out of context. He was simply stating that Jesus did not promote Himself solely as the “Good News.” It was “great” news that Jesus came to earth, died for our sins, and then resurrected Himself to establish Himself as the only living God. He is our Savior and Lord, no one can ever effectively dispute that…neither was Dr. Myles Munroe disputing it. He didn’t discredit Jesus as Lord and Savior of the world. He was simply stating that the church puts so much emphasis on His crucifixion and resurrection, that we fail to realize that Christ Himself preached the “Good News” as the Kingdom of God (read Mark 1:14-15 NLT). Notice in this scripture in the NLT translation, it states that “Jesus went into Galilee, where He preached God’s Good News…” He preached God’s Gospel, not Christ’s Gospel. In fact, in John Chapter 8, Christ said that He does not seek to glorify Himself but His Father. He goes on to say because of that, His Father in return glorifies Him. Dr. Myles Munroe was simply stating that Christ Himself did not make the Gospel (Good News) solely about Himself, but declared that God has a Kingdom that we can have access to that is full of resources, benefits, and remedies for all of our issues in life. The Kingdom of God is a country, it’s a secret place. Christ sits on the throne of this country at the right hand of His Father, God. However, Christ made it clear that His coming to earth and dying for our sins made Him the sacrifice (or remission) for our sins so that we could be born again (saved) and reconciled with God through Christ and therefore, inherit God’s Kingdom. That is why Christ said that He is the only Way, the truth, and the Life. However, Christ Himself preached the Kingdom of God as the Gospel (Good News). Read his sermon on the Mount Matthew Chapters 5-7. His entire sermon is about the Kingdom of God. Every time Christ preached the Gospel, it was about the Kingdom of God. Christ preached the fact that the Kingdom of God can now be establish here on earth as it is in heaven (because of Christ’s sacrifice). The Kingdom is “Good News” because it gives all the resources we need here on earth to thrive and live an abundant life. It is the Kingdom resources that makes the world jealous of us and compels them to ask why or how do you do it? This opens up the discussion to lead them to Christ, then Christ give them access to the Kingdom. Again, these resources are not accessible until we first repent and accept Christ as Lord. Once we have done this, we are told by Christ “Seek FIRST the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness (or a relationship with God) and all these things shall be added to you.” I believe that is what Dr. Myles Munroe was trying to teach. It isn’t heresy, it’s there in your bible, read it for yourself. This is why we as believers must rightfully divide the Word of God, rather than just share our opinions.
Let’s bear in mind though that Jesus would not preach about his death and resurrection as “good news” since he hadn’t died and raised yet. The Apostles DID however preach about Jesus death and resurrection, in fact Paul stated that that he preaches “Jesus and Him crucified” ad that our faith is in vain if He didn’t raise. I believe that Myles swung the pendulum too far to the other side in his effort in emphasizing the Kingdom. Too often in modern church history one truth is emphasized at the expense of another. He needed to have been more balanced in his teaching. The kingdom gospel means NOTHING without the cross, blood and resurrection. Both MUST be taught in tandem with each other.

I want to respond to the comment that says Jesus would not preach his death as a gospel because he had not yet died. Nothing would have stoped Jesus to do so becouse he had always known what would happen to him. He even spoke about it privately to his disciples Matthew 16:21 from that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders and that he must be killed and in the third day be raised to life. Even when he rose from the dead he continued his kingdom massage to his disciples Act 1: 3 After his suffering, he showed himself to these man and gave many convincing proof that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the Kingdom of God.
Jesus sacrifice on the cross, his death and resurrection are all important for our salvation. We need to fully understand the importance and the purpose of the cross and Dr. Munroe preached that everyday.
After accepting Christ, whats next? and that is where Dr. Myles Munroe’s massage kicks in.
He does so by showing you that there’s more to the Kingdom of God; How important the Holy Spirit is in the Kingdom of God, How we not just servant but sons/daughters, citizens and heirs and we have full access to God’s power, miracle, healing, resources, joy, happiness, etc. but we need to know how to access the keys that open the door the kingdom where all this wonderful things are waiting for us.
After praying, grab your bible and seriously listen with an open mind and not be afraid when he said something that challenge religious normal teaching and the status quo, you will learn a lot.
Myles Monroe was the best preacher ever. He taught me so much in one sermon than the church has taught me in 20 years. He revealed the massage of the Kingdom of God that I never knew, since I became a born again child of God,
my life has changed completely. I started to make an impact in my world. I have become a different employee, a different student and a different believer because of the massage he preached.
He correctly points out that the massage of Jesus Christ was not about religion. His massage was about the Kingdom of God. Jesus never preached born again nor his resurrection but he preached the Gospel of the Kingdom of God. We should note the meaning of the word preach in this regard. The word
preach and teach do not mean the same thing. To preach means to announce or to declare in public, in other words preaching is a public address to a multitude, not a private convasation. Which means the convasation between Jesus and Necodemus was not a preaching but a private convasation. Necodemus came to Jesus secretly which means it was not meant to be a public discussion.
Jesus Christ never preached born again to a multitude, his death nor his resurrection. These are important works of redemption but they are not the Gospel. For example born again is a means to enter the Kingdom of God John 3: 5 no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and of the spirit. Born again qualifies you to enter the Kingdom of God. You can not enter the Kingdom of God with sin. Your sins must be washed in the blood of Jesus Christ first, before you can enter the Kingdom of God. Revelation 22:14 -15 Blessed are those who wash their robes, that may have their rights to the tree of life. Outside are dogs, those who practise magic arts, the sexual immoral, the murderers, idolaters and everyone who loves and practise falsehood.
Myles Monroe never denounced the Lord Jesus Christ in anyway but he confessed his love and appreciation of his teachings and his works of redemption. He himself celebrated the death and resurrection of our Lord and savour Jesus Christ. But he placed them in their original context.

Perhaps the biggest lie propagating the church today is that the gospel is for “talking about how to solve people’s problems” and telling people “how to make it through the day”.
People are looking for the benefits of God but not for God himself. Many (if not most) ministers do nothing more than give life lessons or advice from the pulpit. Gone are conviction of sin, accountability to God, mercy, salvation, Hell, and even Jesus Christ.
People hate Christians because Jesus said “You will be hated by everyone because of me…” (Matthew 10:22).
Some factors that make me think he may have been a false preacher is that he went to Oral Roberts University and associated with Benny Hinn, T.D. Jakes and the like. I’m sorry, but, those are NOT good credentials.
I don’t know where Dr. Munroe is right now. However, he really got it wrong in this message. If this is the type of message he consistently preached then he may have been a false preacher after all.
I agree but also agree that Jesus ain’t a white man(as we know white) either. And no this is not a race-baiting rabble. A lot of folks have distorted the truth from Constantine’s Rome to justifying slavery and to dehumanize justifyinga people in this country. When you confront a heresy with the truth there will always be justification for the lie. This country is chief for that type of behavior. We are all guilty of calling churches by their ethnicity. The Truth knows nothing of this especially when we all live in the same nation. Culture, tradition, patriotism political affiliation and money rules the U.S…. even the churches. Heresy is heresy no matter how you spin it. Yes, Myles Monroe was a heretic but so were a lot of others before him even those who were so-called orthodox. This is such a half truth message. This is the preache’s own version of the gospel message.
The main thrust of the gospel is that there is only one way, one truth, one life– and that is in Jesus Christ.
After stating that the gospel is all about the kingdom and not about Christ, this preacher has effectively blocked the truth about the Gospel.
Take away Christ from the so called “kingdom message” and you have any religion. But it is not Christianity.
When he says we have to take things in context, this preacher himself has gone out of context. He belittled Jesus’ words to Nicodemus when Jesus said “you must be born again”. He belittled it to a one time statement, conveniently tossing it away as of no consequence, so definitely he took Jesus words out of context against all other statements Jesus made- one of which was ” Iam the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father except through ME.
What point is the kingdom if there is no Jesus?
The kingdom was the prize for BELIEVING IN Jesus. And Jesus died so we can be free (from hell)
This man has made the kingdom the message, not the consequence of believing in Jesus.

You said it all. Now I can sleep well. One cannot relegate Christ to the background and elevate the kingdom. We must preach Christ and him crucified. The central theme of the Bible is Jesus Christ. Myles Munroe missed it on this one!

Yes Well said, Jesus is the only way. It is Jesus who said that We should seek ye the kingdom of God and his righteous ness and the rest shall be added into you. And without Jesus and the cross there would be no gospel.
Amen for those who have not become “beguiled” by the teachings of the kingdom of the world whose leadership is dictated by the prince of the air and not enlightened by the King of Heaven whose light shines in the darkness.
