Colossians 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
The Greek word used for “Spoiled”, is the word Apekdyomai (Strongs G554). The word finds its meaning in Greek and more specifically in Roman times, when a conquered enemy of the state, was dragged before a Parade of people to the feet of the general that defeated him. The conquered was then striped naked, mocked and jeered before the crowd, then commanded to sign over everything he owns, even his own life to the service of the conquering force. Sometimes even the thumbs of the defeated would be cut off so they could never hold a sword again, and they would often be told to worship at the feet of the winning general. The only other places the word apekdyomai is used is in describing our Old Adamic Nature that has been completely destroyed (Colossians 3:9).
John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
That’s probably a pretty good description of our enemy the devil. The Prince of this world has been cast down, God knows it, the Angels know it, Satan knows it, but we are the ones who don’t know it. The only power the devil has, is the power we give him, by believing his lies; we empower his evil plans and circumstances by our faith. All Satan has is smoke and mirrors, and he gets many of us believers to fight his shadows.
The war is over, Jesus won, but we do have a battle to fight, but it not an external heavenly fight, its actually much closer to home.
2 Corinthians 10:3 -6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
Herein we see the spiritual warfare is not in the heavenlies against demons and principalities, rather the strongholds and high things are in our minds from thoughts and mindsets that try to exalt themselves above the Knowledge of Christ.
Jesus said we are forgiven because of his blood (Colossians 2:13), but the enemies says you better ask for forgiveness. Jesus said we are One Spirit with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17) and he will never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5), but the enemies says Invite the Holy Spirit to Come, cause He’s not with you. Jesus said we are Saints, but the enemy comes and says you are just a sinner saved by grace. Jesus says you are New Creations (2 Corinthians 5:17 ), the enemy says you are only Human. Over and Over we must pull down the lies and line them up with what Jesus says is true about us because of what he did.
If the truth is what sets us Free (John 8:32), then what keeps us in bondage is Lies. Our Battle is against ignorance, lies and unbelief, for by them the enemy has an advantage. And when thoughts come that speak against the truths of The New Covenant, we have power over them to bring them into submission to the reality of Jesus Christ in our lives. That is the battle we fight.
