What Are Spiritual Gifts?

Spiritual gifts are special abilities given by the Holy Spirit for the purpose of building up the body of Christ. They are intended to be used for the benefit of others and not just for the individual who possesses the gift.

Some of the spiritual gifts mentioned in the Bible include:

  1. Wisdom: The ability to make decisions and give guidance that is according to God’s will.
  2. Knowledge: The clear understanding and speaking of the divine truth.
  3. Faith: Being able to trust God and encourage others to do so, even in the face of exceptionally difficult circumstances.
  4. Healing: The miraculous ability to invoke divine health.
  5. Miraculous Powers: Abilities that alter the natural laws of the universe.
  6. Prophecy: The ability to proclaim a message from God.
  7. Distinguishing Between Spirits: The ability to determine truth from error or right from wrong.
  8. Speaking in Tongues: The ability to speak in a language not previously known by the speaker.
  9. Interpretation of Tongues: The ability to translate the tongues speaking and communicate it back to others in their own language.

Let Us Pray: Prayer For The Blessings Of Spiritual Gifts

Recognizing The Giver Of Spiritual Gifts

Almighty and Gracious Father, You are the source of all good and perfect gifts. I stand in awe of Your endless wisdom and unending love. Even when I struggle to understand the depth of Your divine generosity, Your Word reminds me of the manifold spiritual gifts that You bestow upon Your children.

As I journey through life, I often encounter challenges that test my faith and stretch my abilities. However, I am comforted by the knowledge that You, my God, are the giver of spiritual gifts. You endow us with diverse abilities for the edification of Your church and for Your glory. With a heart open to Your will, I yearn to receive and utilize these spiritual gifts.

1 Corinthians 12:4-6 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

Romans 12:6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith.

Praying For The Unveiling Of Gifts

Benevolent and Generous Father, as I face the complexities of life and the challenges of my faith journey, I rely on Your Spirit’s guidance and power. I come to You with a humble heart, asking for the unveiling and cultivation of the spiritual gifts You’ve bestowed upon me.

I pray, O Lord, for Your spiritual gifts to be revealed and nurtured in my life. May I have the wisdom to identify them, the courage to use them, and the humility to acknowledge that they come from You. With confident faith, I declare, “God has equipped me with spiritual gifts for His service!”

1 Corinthians 12:11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

2 Timothy 1:6 For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

Bless Me With Your Spiritual Gifts

Give me a discerning spirit, Oh Lord. Bless me with the word of knowledge. Allow me extraordinary faith for healing, and working miracles all for the glory of You. Give me the strength and wisdom to use them wisely. Lead me and guide me as I use these gifts appropriately.

Draw near Lord and as Your people witness Your great works, they will glorify You. Reach out and touch the lives of many. Use me, Oh Lord, to fulfill Your will. Grant me love in my heart and peace in my soul as I spread Your word across the land.

Romans 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

2 Timothy 1:6 Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.

Seeking The Spirit’s Guidance

Divine Comforter and Counselor, Your Scriptures illuminate the variety and power of the spiritual gifts You dispense. You, who endowed Solomon with wisdom, blessed Samson with strength, and filled Paul with the gift of apostleship, are well able to provide me with the spiritual gifts I need for Your service.

In times of uncertainty and doubt, I lean on Your understanding, O Lord. Even when I am unsure of my abilities or the path to take, I am confident that Your Spirit is guiding me. As I seek to understand and discover the spiritual gifts You have given me, I trust in Your divine counsel and direction.

1 Corinthians 12:7-8 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit.

John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

Praying For Spiritual Gifts

Lord, the Sovereign Giver of all good gifts, I affirm my faith in Your divine generosity. Your Word assures me that You have endowed me with spiritual gifts for the edification of Your church and the extension of Your kingdom. I declare my readiness to use these gifts to glorify Your name.

In every situation that tests my faith, every circumstance that demands my abilities, and every opportunity to serve, I declare, “I am ready to use my spiritual gifts for the Lord!” I stand firm on Your Word, trusting in Your provision, and confident in the spiritual gifts You have given me.

Regardless of the trials I encounter, I rejoice in Your provision. I welcome Your guidance in the discovery and use of my spiritual gifts. I seek Your direction as I serve in Your kingdom, and I declare readiness and willingness to use my gifts.

Whatever comes my way, I will proclaim, “The Lord has equipped me with spiritual gifts, and I am ready to serve!” In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!

Romans 12:4-5 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.

1 Peter 4:10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
